Does Surfshark work in China?

As of Aug 11, 2026, Surfshark is partially working in China.

What we're seeing

Surfshark's China support article, updated May 11, 2026, now tells users who cannot connect through the app to fall back to manual WireGuard configurations, an implicit admission that in-country app connections keep failing. OONI shows surfshark.com near zero successful measurements from China between June 1 and August 11, with confirmed blocks on July 13 and 20, which supports the install-before-arrival note. No fresh independent in-country report surfaced in either direction this pass.

Country-aggregate (not per-ASN decomposed). Confirms the vendor website is blocked in-country, which supports 'install before arrival'; it does not prove the tunnel fails. Caveat: my same-country control was www.wikipedia.org, itself GFW-blocked, so it does not certify probe health; surfshark.com being GFW-blocked is nonetheless uncontroversial." -

Newest Surfshark-relevant thread is Feb 2025 (user routinely using Surfshark, HK account context); nothing from the last 30 days. Background only. - OONI: queried surfshark.com (rich data, cited above). Per-ASN decomposition not performed; recommend pinning AS4134/AS9808 next cycle if an escalation is ever suspected.
