Mullvad's own restrictive-locations guide, updated April 22, 2026, names Egypt and prescribes obfuscation (QUIC, Shadowsocks, UDP-over-TCP). That matters because Egypt has DPI-fingerprinted plain WireGuard handshakes since about 2021, and WireGuard is Mullvad's only protocol since January 2026. User reports from 2022-2025 form a consistent pattern: works with obfuscation, often slowly, and not on every ISP. The website itself is broadly reachable in Egypt per OONI, so signup works in-country.
