Method
purevpn.com is blocked (http-failure) on essentially every real Egyptian ISP measured: in-country users likely cannot reach the site to sign up or download without an existing tunnel; no direct evidence either way on the tunnel; if it connects it likely needs obfuscation or WireGuard given Egypt 2017-era DPI

What we're seeing

OONI shows purevpn.com blocked on essentially every real Egyptian ISP measured: 85 of 88 probes anomalous on TE Data/WE since April 2026, Orange and Etisalat Misr at 100 percent, with fresh http-failure anomalies as recent as July 17-18. In-country users likely cannot reach the site to sign up without an existing tunnel. The vendor's own Egypt page recommends obfuscated servers because the government blocks VPN services, an implicit admission of interference; whether the tunnel connects is unconfirmed either way.

Common questions

Is using a VPN legal in Egypt?

No law bans VPNs, but the 2018 cybercrime law penalizes accessing blocked websites, even by mistake without a valid reason. We report availability, not legal advice.

Do I need obfuscation in Egypt?

Probably. Egypt has filtered standard VPN protocols since about 2017, and the five VPNs we list as partially working all lean on obfuscated modes. Tunnels mostly survive; vendor websites are the main casualty.

Should I install a VPN before arriving in Egypt?

Yes. Most vendor websites are blocked on Egyptian ISPs (Telecom Egypt blocks nearly all of them), so download and subscribe before you arrive.
