Does PureVPN work in Turkey?
As of Aug 1, 2026, PureVPN is partially working in Turkey.
- Status
- degraded
- Confidence
- low
- Last verified

- Method
- www.purevpn.com is blocked outright on Türk Telekom (AS9121) and on Turkcell and Tellcom (AS16135, AS34984) as of 2026-08-01, and reachable normally on TurkNet (AS12735). Buy and install before arrival, or install over another connection; a blocked website does not by itself mean the tunnel fails. No fresh in-country report confirms which protocol or obfuscation setting currently connects, so the earlier note about automatic obfuscation is carried as unconfirmed rather than re-verified. PureVPN has been on the BTK blocklist since the December 2023 wave.
Working alternatives in Turkey
No VPN is currently verified as working in Turkey. We would rather say that than guess. Check back after the next weekly verification pass.

What we're seeing
OONI measurements through August 1, 2026 show www.purevpn.com blocked on Türk Telekom, at 357 anomalies in 357 measurements, and on Turkcell and Tellcom, while TurkNet was reachable at 11 of 11. PureVPN has been on the BTK blocklist since the December 2023 wave. No report from the last 30 days confirms which protocol currently connects, so our earlier note about automatic obfuscation is carried as unconfirmed rather than restated as fact.

- news (Aug 1, 2026): Affiliate review site (snippet-observed via search, not fetched). Claims PureVPN "works in Turkey" via automatic obfuscation. Recorded only as the conflicting side of the disagreement below; near-zero weight, no dated methodology, no in-country testing. Same undated "it works" claim appears on vpnmentor, wizcase, comparitech and gizlilikveguvenlik. - disagreements: Direct conflict, not averaged. (1) Affiliate review sites (vpnalert, vpnmentor, wizcase, comparitech) assert PureVPN works in Turkey with automatic obfuscation; none give a date, an ISP, or a test. OONI shows PureVPN's own domain 100% unreachable across 357 consecutive measurements on Turk Telekom, Turkey's largest ISP. Those two claims can both be true (site blocked, tunnel fine) but the affiliate sites show no evidence they checked either. (2) Reddit background conflicts with itself: a Dec 2023 "blocked" report against a Jan 2024 "works right now" report, both far outside the evidence window. (3) The honest gap: nothing found in the last 30 days observes the PureVPN tunnel connecting or failing from inside Turkey. A stricter reviewer could reasonably call this unverified rather than degraded; what tips it to degraded is the current, dated, ASN-attributed proof that Turkey is actively blocking PureVPN infrastructure on its two largest ISP groups plus confirmed BTK blocklist membership. "working" is not supportable on this evidence, and "blocked" is not either. Research access notes: Reddit checked via pullpush API (r/Turkey fetched successfully for both "purevpn" and "vpn"; r/PureVPN returned an empty set for "turkey"); old.reddit.com is blocked from this environment and site:reddit.com searches returned no real threads, only affiliate pages. Turkish sources: eksisozluk.com returned HTTP 403 on direct fetch
- user_report (Aug 1, 2026): OONI community measurements, Turkey (fetched). 625 measurements 2026-06-01 to 2026-08-01: 93 ok, 532 anomaly, 0 confirmed, 0 failure. Anomalies present every single day of the window. Raw anomaly counts rise sharply after 2026-07-22, but the per-ASN breakdown shows this is rising probe volume on an already-blocked network, not a new block event. -
- user_report (Aug 1, 2026): OONI community measurements by ASN, 2026-07-15 to 2026-08-01 (fetched). Clean ISP split. Anomalous: AS9121 Turk Telekom 357/357 anomaly (zero ok on any day), AS34984 Tellcom/Superonline 20/20, AS47331 5/5, AS47524 2/2, AS16135 Turkcell 1/1. Clean: AS12735 TurkNet 11/11 ok, AS205196 7/7 ok, AS42910 2/2, AS834, AS203576, AS212742. This is a website-reachability measurement, not a tunnel test. ASN-to-ISP names are the standard public mappings, not something OONI returned. -
- reddit (Aug 1, 2026): r/Turkey comment archive (fetched via pullpush; archive lags badly, newest PureVPN hit is 2024-01-20). Contents conflict and are all background-grade: 2024-01-20 "I'm using PureVPN works pretty badass right now"; 2023-12-09 a user reports PureVPN blocked; 2021-09-06 lists it among BTK-blocked VPNs; 2016 comments say it works. A separate pullpush pull of r/Turkey comments matching "vpn" returned nothing newer than mid-2025 and named only Proton, Mullvad, Kaspersky and Ultrasurf, never PureVPN. Nothing inside the 30-day window. -
- vendor (Aug 1, 2026): Vendor status page (fetched). "All systems operational", most services at 100% 90-day uptime, no open incidents. No country-level or Turkey-specific breakdown, so it neither confirms nor denies Turkish reachability. Weak, and not usable as support for a "working" call. -
Common questions
Is using a VPN legal in Turkey?
Yes. Using a VPN is not a crime in Turkey. The regulator BTK blocks access to many VPN providers instead, including 17 services in December 2023, so getting a VPN is harder than using one.
Do I need obfuscation to connect in Turkey?
For most providers, yes. As of July 2026, all 9 VPNs we verified in Turkey are only partially working, and each needs its obfuscated mode or a manual protocol to connect reliably on Turkish ISPs. Check the method notes on each status.
Should I set up a VPN before arriving in Turkey?
Yes. Many vendor websites are blocked by BTK, so download the app and finish signup before you arrive. App stores generally still carry the major apps.
